I know that I’m tempting fate by the title.
However it’s been a mild winter for us in the East of England and in the middle of February, the crown-boards are warm on some hives indication that brooding is happening in a big way. A couple of hives have been light which indicates that they have been at it for a while. Hazel has been out for a while of course and willow is just about starting to flower – I can see white specs on the branches from my window. Crocuses are poking up above the grass too. The light hives have fondant on them – a first for me as I have not bought any in previous years relying on made-up candy. Once we get towards the end of February, then syrup can be given in any case.
